“Whistle While You Work”

The other day I discovered a company called WeWork; they are a coworking company with locations all over the world including my favorite city, NYC!  It got me dreaming about my {hopefully} future work space, which would be an office with tons of natural lighting, exposed brick walls, and a floor to ceiling window overlooking either Bryant Park or the Hudson River… I mean a girl can dream right?

Once I moved away to college, I started realizing the importance of having your own personal workspace; a place not only to study, but a place that I could be creative as well!  This past year I moved into an apartment with a loft room and I quickly started transforming it into my dream space (or as close as I could on a college budget). Here were some of the essential elements for creating my ultimate working space:

ColorsI had seen a pink, black and gold room on Pinterest and decided to go with that as my color theme!  Being a very ‘matchy matchy’ person, if it wasn’t pink, gold, white or black, it didn’t go in my room (even my quotes on my chalk wall have to be written in pink or white).

QuotesI’m sort of a quote-aholic (if that’s even a thing), I love having quotes everywhere.  I ordered two prints from Pretty Print Shopand then created my own Breathtakingly Beautiful print.

My favorite part of my room is my chalkboard wall which is covered top to bottom in quotes!

New YorkUntil I can have an office in New York, I feel the need to have pictures of NYC surrounding me at all times.  I found this canvas of the Brooklyn Bridge at Hobby Lobby for less than $20 AND it was the right colors, so I obviously had to get it. Having pictures of the city around me inspires me to always keep chasing my dreams!

PicturesFor me, a room is not truly complete without at least a few pictures of my precious family and friends!

I cannot keep still to save my life, so instead of a chair I sit on an exercise ball!

My other workspace essentials include Sharpie pens, my Plum Paper Planner, and obviously lots of coffee!

Modani Living Room

One of the things I’m looking forward to most when I graduate college is having a space of my own to decorate!  If you haven’t heard of Modani yet, get ready to fall in love; Modani creates timeless furniture, but with a modern twist! I’ve put together my idea of a perfect living room incorporating sleek modern pieces, with chic girly items, just like my wardrobe!

For the focal point of my room, I settled on a modern black sofa from Modani’s chic Sofa Collection!  When it comes to clothes, I often times always wear all black with a pop of color, so I wanted my living room to reflect that.  I loved the sleek glass coffee table and lamp.  Hot pink brightens up any room, so I used it as my pop of color!  I thought the rug perfectly tied in the black and the silvers in the room.  The suitcases were love at first sight; not only do they show my love to travel, but they double as storage!

Dream * Wish * Believe Canvases

IMG_5620

This last week I had the task of furnishing/decorating my whole living room from scratch; while it was fun, it was also daunting.  I decided on the color scheme first: gray and pink; and of course a New York theme.  Since I’m only going to be in my apartment nine more months I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on it and wanted to keep it pretty simple. I wanted some type of DIY project in the room and settled on three ‘word’ canvases- super easy to make and fairly cost effective.  To fit in with the color scheme I made my three pictures (that I took in NYC over the summer) black and white.  Using the program ‘Collage Creator Lite’, I imposed the words on them and reformatted them to 16 x 20.  I ordered the prints from Walgreens and got three 16in by 20in canvases from Hobby Lobby along with light pink paint.  I painted the edges of the canvases and once the paint was dry put a layer of matte modge podge on the canvases, then carefully placed the photo on top.  I’ve seen it done both ways online, but I didn’t put a layer of modge podge over the picture.  I was really excited with how they turned out!
