Weddington Way

I still remember the first thing everyone said to me at my sister’s wedding was, “That bridesmaid dress is great, you’ll definitely be able to wear it again”.  I am a firm believer of getting multiple wears and usage out of all articles of clothing… including bridesmaid dresses!  I found some gorgeous bridesmaid dresses from Weddington Way and decided to take my favorite and turn it into a summer date night outfit!

Florals for Spring… Groundbreaking

I know…Florals for Spring… Groundbreaking trend, but lately I have caught myself in florals a lot (if I’m not in my “uniform” of all black).  Here are some of my favorite floral finds!

L. Windham

LWindham

Get ready to fall in love, because New York City based jewelry designer Laurie Windham has launched her first jewelry line and it is drop dead gorgeous! L.Windham combines swarovski crystals and unique geometric shapes with a vintage flare and a contemporary twist to create a jewelry collection that will attract complements all day long. I got the honor of asking Laurie (who I have no doubt will soon be covering the pages of Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue) a few questions!

What is your favorite part about designing and making jewelry?

There are so many aspects of designing jewelry that I love. The whole process is so fun and really allows me to express my creativity into a wearable piece of art. My favorite part about designing jewelry is seeing women wear my jewelry designs. I love when women come up to me and tell me how much they adore wearing the jewelry. That feeling of genuine excitement a woman gets from wearing L.Windham jewelry is what makes me want to continue doing this forever!

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

There is so much beauty around us whether it be in nature, a museum, or a magazine. I draw inspiration from everywhere, but most of it comes to me when I lie down and close my eyes. My best designs come to be when I am relaxed. I am able to piece different shapes together in my mind to form new designs, and once I come up with a design, I put a pen to paper and sketch out the idea.

What is the one piece of advice you would give to others who are looking to pursue their dreams?

I would urge people to not procrastinate. Make an end goal, and see it through. It’s scary!  Believe me. I have doubts all the time about whether I’m being silly to pursue such a farfetched dream, but this is what I love. I have only one life to live, so I need to make sure I do something great with it. I want to inspire others to pursue their dreams, and don’t ever let someone tell you can’t do it.

I cannot wait to get my hands on some  all of her gorgeous pieces- here are some of my faves!

Modani Living Room

One of the things I’m looking forward to most when I graduate college is having a space of my own to decorate!  If you haven’t heard of Modani yet, get ready to fall in love; Modani creates timeless furniture, but with a modern twist! I’ve put together my idea of a perfect living room incorporating sleek modern pieces, with chic girly items, just like my wardrobe!

ModaniLivingRoom

For the focal point of my room, I settled on a modern black sofa from Modani’s chic Sofa Collection!  When it comes to clothes, I often times always wear all black with a pop of color, so I wanted my living room to reflect that.  I loved the sleek glass coffee table and lamp.  Hot pink brightens up any room, so I used it as my pop of color!  I thought the rug perfectly tied in the black and the silvers in the room.  The suitcases were love at first sight; not only do they show my love to travel, but they double as storage!

Amy Elizabeth

MANSUR GAVRIEL

If you haven’t seen someone who works in fashion carrying a  Mansur Gavriel Bucket Bag around the streets of NYC, then you may have been living under a rock.  As popular as these bags were in 2014, with them currently being sold out until March, there is no doubt that these bags are going to continue to soar in popularity during 2015! Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel were named a Racked Young Gun of 2014 and rightly so, not only were they picked up by Bergdorf Goodman’s, but their bags sell out within minutes on every website! With prices averaging between $500 and $600, these bags hit a niche in the market that is widely ignored- there are few designer bags at this price point.  If you can get your hands on one of these beauties, jump on the opportunity!

Bite Lip Lab

IMG_4376

My cousin had sent me this blog post about Bite Lip Lab  in Soho, as soon as I read it I knew I had to go!  I thought that it would be more fun to go with a friend rather than by myself, so when my friend came in town last week it was on the top of our to-do list. Here’s a word of warning: Bite didn’t used to take appointments, but now it’s pretty much by appointment only.  We walked in still under the assumption that they didn’t take appointments, so we were lucky when they were able to squeeze us in the next day. I had decided long in advance that I wanted the perfect red, one that would compliment my very fair skin tone.  We sat down with our wonderful technician and told her the shades that we were looking for. After choosing a matte finish, she starting mixing pigments out of little pots like a chemistry lab. She created two different reds for me to try; one a little more pink and one a little more orange. After looking at each one on my lips in the natural light I chose the pinkish one.  Then more choices!  They had seven different scents to choose from: vanilla, mint, violet, rose, blueberry, cherry, and mango. You can mix scents, so of course I was difficult and chose vanilla-violet. After choosing the shape of the lipstick container it was ready for showtime!  The technician mixed my shade by taking chunks of solid lipstick (which was shaped into what looked like truffles), mixing in the scent, melting it and then mixing it in a centrifuge.  After, she poured it in a mold and places in on a freezer.  About 10 minutes later she carefully took it out of the mold, slid it in the container and I had my very own custom lipstick!  They suggest waiting an hour or so to let it cool before putting it on.  The final verdict?  I’m in love; not only do I love the color, but I love the texture and how well it stays on!  At $36, a custom lipstick is just a little more expensive than Bite’s normal lipsticks and definitely worth the cost! Hopefully I’ll get a chance to go back and create a nude shade as well!

Lilly Pulitzer Bows

IMG_0373

If you love Lilly Pulitzer as much as I do, but hate the hefty price tag it brings, let me introduce you to Say It With Lilly on Etsy, run by the fabulous Katie Frost! Her shop sells Lilly fabric, phone skins, and most importantly bows, for a fraction of what Lilly usually costs! She has a ton of great prints for her bows, and you can choose a small or large barrette depending on the thickness of your hair (I chose large). Each bow is hand sewn with love.  I was lucky enough to receive a ‘Sparks Fly‘ Bow-a must have for Fourth of July, and a ‘Chin Chin’ Bow -which is perfect for summer! Even with my thick hair, the clip is sturdy enough to hold it all back. Enter the code: BREATHTAKING at checkout for 10% off!   If you’re looking for a ‘Lilly Perfect’ Fourth of July outfit, pair the Sparks Fly bow with Lilly’s Wiley Ruffle Tube Top in Navy!

Cruciani: The New “It” Bracelet

IMG_0366

Last week while at the Shops At Columbus Circle, I stumbled into Crucianil; unsure of what exactly it was, I didn’t pay much attention to it.  Within the week I started seeing Cruciani bracelets everywhere- most recognizably on BaubleBar’s website! These macrame bracelets, 100% handmade in Italy, are all the rage! They are lightweight, making them perfect for summer and come in a HUGE variety of colors- everything from neon to metallic.  I wanted a color (not a neutral), but I also wanted one that would match everything, so I chose their classic Clover Bracelet in Blush. Their bracelets average $18 making them a great gift! The only downside is that they tie onand are kind of difficult to tie yourself.

Love Always,

Amy Elizabeth
