Quote of the Day//Goodbye NYC

In February 2013, I started to live the life I had always dreamed of.  Since then I have been to NYC seven different times, differing in lengths from three days to over two months all for work related reasons. I’ve gotten to do things I had longed to do for so long like working Fashion Week. I’ve gotten to live the life of my dreams and it has been one crazy adventure.  Leaving New York is always bittersweet, but especially this time.  On one hand, I left my adorable puppy Hudson Bearfoot with his grandparents and miss him like crazy.  On the other hand, this is the first time I’ve ever left New York with no set return date-which is scary.  I know I’ll be back, I just don’t know when.  As I said last summer, spending a summer basically by yourself stretches you tremendously.  It’s taken 21 years, but I’ve finally become content with being by myself doing absolutely nothing.  I’ve learned that sometimes you need to splurge on that fancy dinner, and that yes it is okay to make a reservation for 1. I’ve learned that before anything else, you need to standup for yourself, because no one else is going to do it for you. I’ve learned that everything is walkable in NYC if it is a pretty day (yes, everything). Most importantly though, I’ve learned to be thankful.  Thankful for every day, every person, and every moment, always.

Love Always,

Amy Elizabeth

Goodbye NYC

I’ve ‘traveled’ all my life, a week here, a few days there… But not two months.  Some of y’all might not know, but yesterday I wrapped up a two month internship with a Fashion Public Relations firm in NYC. Two months in New York, now that will change you.  I went from not knowing which subway to take to get to my apt to being able to go to Vogue’s office without an address or map. I learned the art of how to get through a subway turnstile carrying a purse, garment bag and two shopping bags. I became very quick at figuring out which direction was north, south, east and west when exiting the subway. More importantly though, I learned about me.  I quickly learned that when everyone you know is over 1500 miles away, you can’t rely on people, but only on God. I learned that I can be just as content in a 300 square foot ‘studio’, than a 1,000 square foot apartment. I learned that it’s okay to take time for yourself and spend time by yourself.  I learned that sometimes, when everything seems to go wrong you just have to laugh (like carrying 21 pieces of clothes from the dry cleaners when it starts to pour down rain, not having a hand available to hold an umbrella and wearing a white shirt). And I learned that if you fully surrender to God, he will place you exactly where you need to be, doing exactly what you should be doing.
