Get ready to fall in love, because New York City based jewelry designer Laurie Windham has launched her first jewelry line and it is drop dead gorgeous! L.Windham combines swarovski crystals and unique geometric shapes with a vintage flare and a contemporary twist to create a jewelry collection that will attract complements all day long. I got the honor of asking Laurie (who I have no doubt will soon be covering the pages of Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue) a few questions!
What is your favorite part about designing and making jewelry?
There are so many aspects of designing jewelry that I love. The whole process is so fun and really allows me to express my creativity into a wearable piece of art. My favorite part about designing jewelry is seeing women wear my jewelry designs. I love when women come up to me and tell me how much they adore wearing the jewelry. That feeling of genuine excitement a woman gets from wearing L.Windham jewelry is what makes me want to continue doing this forever!
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
There is so much beauty around us whether it be in nature, a museum, or a magazine. I draw inspiration from everywhere, but most of it comes to me when I lie down and close my eyes. My best designs come to be when I am relaxed. I am able to piece different shapes together in my mind to form new designs, and once I come up with a design, I put a pen to paper and sketch out the idea.
What is the one piece of advice you would give to others who are looking to pursue their dreams?
I would urge people to not procrastinate. Make an end goal, and see it through. It’s scary! Believe me. I have doubts all the time about whether I’m being silly to pursue such a farfetched dream, but this is what I love. I have only one life to live, so I need to make sure I do something great with it. I want to inspire others to pursue their dreams, and don’t ever let someone tell you can’t do it.
I cannot wait to get my hands on
some all of her gorgeous pieces- here are some of my faves!
Kohl’s launched two Cinderella Collections yesterday, and yes, they are a dream come true! They have a Disney’s Cinderella for Juniors collection, and Disney’s Cinderella a Collection by LC Lauren Conrad – both are full of tulle, floral prints and the classic Cinderella blue. It took all my will power to not buy it all, so these were the three pieces I settled on.
Disney’s Cinderella a Collection by LC Lauren Conrad Tulle Skirt in Ballad Blue
Disney’s Cinderella Floral High-Low Dress
Disney’s Cinderella a Collection by LC Lauren Conrad Castle Tee: I grew up going to Disney World, so I absolutely had to get a shirt with Cinderella’s Castle on it
I also snagged this Boho Lace Trimmed Kimono that was love at first sight!
I took a Management class this semester and through a personality quiz we had to take, confirmed what I already knew… I am very Type A. I plan things way too far in advance and put everything on my to-do list (everything), which is why I am SO thrilled about my new planner from Plum Paper Designs. I love planners, but I can never find one that is laid out how I want it; I make a daily list for each day a week at a time (I’ve been using the sad notepads on my laptop), but it’s nearly impossible to find planners like this- until now! Plum Paper has a planner to fit every type of need including: Student Planners, Fitness Planners, Meal Planners, Family Planners, Teacher Planners, and Wedding Planners. I decided on one of their Regular Planners. Along with choosing from one of their many many gorgeous covers that can have your name and/or monogram, you get to choose which 12 month period you want (I chose January 2015 to December 2015). Each planner contains yearly, monthly and weekly at a glance pages, along with notes pages for each month, a contacts page, Holidays page and a ‘for keeps’ pocket where you can keep special memories for the year like ticket stubs or things you need like receipts. My favorite thing about these planners is that Plum Paper allows you to choose your ‘Weekly Spread’ type. I organize my day/to-do list by the order of things that need to get done, so I chose ‘Option 3’ which is days with blank lines and then a checklist for each day (picture below). The best part? Plum Paper is offering you 10% off when you use the code: BEAUTIFUL10
I definitely struggle with dry, peeling, dinosaur like lips- I’ve tried everything and this is what I’ve found works the best for me!
Moisturizer: I’ve used Aquaphor for years, but I recently tried Kiehl’s Lip Balm and it works TONS better! I also love the minty flavor!
Lip Scrub: I’ve tried so many lip scrubs and recently splurged for Sara Happ’s Red Velvet Lip Scrub after reading glowing reviews… and I’m so glad I did! Not only does it scrub away all the dead skin without being too rough, it also smells fantastic!
Lipstick: I swear by Bite’s Lipstick. I’ve only ever gotten their lipstick via their Lip Lab, so I can’t recommend any specific colors.! Their lipstick is moisturizing and stays on well; it’s also the only lipstick I’ve ever tried that doesn’t flake off taking my skin along with it.
Tinted Lip Balm: My go to lip color is YSL’s Sheer Candy in 05 Mouthwatering Berry. I got to meet Vogue’s amazing beauty editor, Sarah Brown, at Saks a few weeks ago and this was one of her favorite products. The color looks dark, but is quite sheer, giving your lips the perfect amount of color. Not only does it smell delightful, but is very moisturizing.
Eye Shadow: Here is a drugstore steal; New York Color’s Trio Eye Shadow in ‘Bronzed in Brooklyn’ is great for everyday color, and it even tells you where to apply which shades.
Eye Liner: I’m not great at putting on eye liner, but Maybelline’s Eye Studio Master Precision Ink Pen Eyeliner is almost foolproof. While it is cheap, the downside is the tube doesn’t seem to last me for very long.
Eyelash Curler: Tweezerman’s Classic Lash Curler is the absolute best! I won’t go anywhere without curling my eyelashes!
Mascara: This has by far been the hardest thing for me to find, I’m very picky when it comes to mascara. Tarte makes a great one called ‘Lights Camera Flashes‘, but if you really wanna splurge, check out YSL’s ‘Shocking’– it’ll make your lashes look fake!
I started wearing (very minimal) makeup in middle school, and I think it has taken the entire ten years since then to find my makeup must-haves. It kills me to spend the money on non-drugstore makeup, but I’ve learned throughout the years what is worth the cost and what is not. Here are my top face makeup picks!
Primer: I swear by Elf’s Mineral Primer (in clear). I’ve tried Stilla’s infamous primer and I think that Elf’s is just as good and at a fraction of the cost!
Under Eye Brightener: Once again, Elf saves the day with their Studio HD Lifting Concealer in ‘Brightening’
Foundation: I’ve used my fair share of foundations, and Revlon’s ColorStay Whipped Creme Foundation is the absolute best!
Contouring Stick: I wanted a fairly fool proof way to contour and after a great deal of research, decided on Tarte’s The Sculptor Contouring Face Slenderizer. Not only does it work wonders, it also comes with wonderful instructions!
Blush: I got a makeover down at YSL a few weeks ago and this is one of my finds! Their Baby Doll Kiss & Blush in #3 (Rose Libre) is the perfect pink color and is definitely worth the investment.
Mattifying Powder: Another Elf favorite: Translucent Mattifying Powder; I have oily skin and this powder keeps my face from looking shiny!
One of my favorite quotes is, “Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take but by the moments that take your breath away.” When I found this quote on a leather wrap in C. Johannesen Studio’s Shop, I instantly fell in love with it. C. Johannesen has a huge variety of leather bracelets in her shop among other things such as key chains and luggage tags. I love that this shop has leather bracelets in a TON of varying thicknesses an styles. If you can’t find a quote that you love, they will also do a custom quote wrap for you! The best thing about their wraps is that they’re made with a buckle closure which means they will adjust to ANY wrist size… yes any! All of their items would make a great, personalized gift!

Taking after my mother, I’m always on the hunt for a new bakery. After reading Buzzfeed’s 25 Bakeries Around the World You Have to See Before You Die I decided that I needed to try Breads Bakery. Located in Union Square, this bakery is a great spot for breakfast! They had samples of their Chocolate Babka bread, which they are known for and it was amazing- the only downside is they only sell it by the loaf, so I just settled on two little pastries. I tried their Chocolate Rugelach (that they are also known for) which was to die for, and a Canele (a bundt cake looking pastry) which was also very good. Definitely recommend this spot if you are in the area!
When exploring the city last week, my friends and I stumbled across an Ice Cream truck and decided to try it- it was incredible! Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream has a few stores in New York and an Ice Cream Truck! The first time I went I got the Salted Caramel and I was in heaven. I love a good sweet/salty mix, and this was the perfect combination of the two. I visited their actual store in the East Village a few days later as I was craving my salted caramel ice cream, but this time I got it with hot fudge… To die for! I highly recommend checking this place out!
